The Omnivore's Dilemma

The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan is a thought-provoking exploration of the complex and often confusing food system in America, questioning where our food comes from and how it impacts our health, the environment, and the economy.

This was the first book either of us read on the subject and it really changed our life.

Folks this ain't normal

"Folks, This Ain't Normal" by Joel Salatin is a passionate and practical guide to understanding the problems with our current industrial food system and a call to action for individuals and communities to reclaim control of their food supply and return to more traditional, sustainable, and regenerative farming practices.

If you haven't heard of Joel Salatin before now you need to google him.  His farm is doing very good things and he's very outspoken about the problems with industrial agriculture.

Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations

A historical exploration of how soil degradation has led to the decline of civilizations throughout history.  This is a very moving book and a little depressing but it puts the challenges we face today into perspective.
